Twenty years ago Vanguard developed the Club 420 in response to the growing need for a more durable, high-performance, double-handed racing dinghy that could stand up to the rigors of club and collegiate programs. Ideal for crews ranging in size from 220-310 lbs., the Club 420 is manageable for sailors coming out of the Optimist class and enables young sailors to learn teamwork, trapeze, and spinnaker techniques.

The stable, forgiving hull is built tough with reinforced fiberglass, high impact bumpers, and a simple, untapered rig. The Club 420 is simple and safe for beginning sailors and yet quick enough to keep collegiate All-Americans interested.

Double-handed boats like the Club 420 give youth sailors the chance to master valuable spinnaker, trapeze and teamwork skills that simply can't be learned in single-handed boats. Progressive sailing associations are developing team racing and fleet racing events around their double-handed trainers. These new sailing challenges are keeping young sailors excited and building participation in junior programs

Vanguard has sold more than 2000 Club 420s to training programs around the nation. More than 100 high schools and colleges maintain fleets as well. The Club 420 class Association publishes an informative newsletter, maintains class rules, and helps to promote events on the local, regional, and national levels. The racing and learning only improve as more clubs standardize to the Club 420, and participation grows at every level. Vanguard is dedicated to building the Club 420 class nationwide and we will work with you to help your school or your club build and maintain your fleet. Give us a call and put our knowledge and experience to work for you!
